PET –Tutorial Educational Program – was created to support academic activities that aim the union of areas of teaching, research and extension. PET Industrial Engireering is formed by students of Industrial Engineering of the Federal University of Itajubá – Unifei.
Under the supervision of a teacher/tutor, its members carry out activities in the areas of Teaching, Extension and Research, trying to achive skills, competences and experiences that contribute to the personal, academic and professional development of each one.
In teaching area, the members of PET Industrial Engineering work offering two electives disciplines for Unifei students:
Basic Course on Electronic Spreadsheets (PGY046)
The Basic Course on Electronic Spreadsheets – PGY046 discipline – is offered every semester for Unifei students. It is taught by students of PET Industrial Engineering under the supervision of the group tutor.
In every lesson it is taught a new application of the main tools of Microsoft Office Excel. The course objective is to complement the academic education of their students with knowledge about one of the most used spreadsheet editing software in the world.
The classes happen weekly and the course lasts one semester. The course is developed through the resolution of cases inspired by real situations to students assimilate more easily how to use the tools. There are no prerequisites to take the course.
The course is constantly reviewed by the students through an electronic questionnaire answered by them in all classes. In the questionnaire, the student gives his views on the teaching of the course and the performance of instructors and monitors.
Based on this information, PET team deploys adjustments in the methodology used to better serve the students. PET Industrial Engineering also provides training and short courses on basic and intermediate tools of Microsoft Office Excel.
Solidworks Parametric Design (PGY027)
Solidworks Parametric Design – PGY027 discipline – is taught by students of PET Industrial Engineering under the supervision of the group tutor.
In every lesson it is taught a new application of the main design software tools SolidWorks parametric – an important tool in the product development process. The main objective of the course is to complement the academic education of their students with knowledge on the 3D CAD software most used in the world.
The course lasts one semester. It is developed through problem solving and development projects inspired by real situations to students assimilate more easily how to use the tools. It is recommended to have attended the courses Basic Technical Drawing (DES201) and Technical Drawing on Computer (DES204) or equivalent to attend PGY027 discipline.
The course is constantly reviewed by the students through a questionnaire answered by them. In the questionnaire, the student gives his view on the teaching of the course and the performance of instructors and monitors. Based on this information PET team deploys adjustments in the methodology used to better serve students.
PET Industrial Engineering also provides training and short courses on basic and intermediate tools of SolidWorks.
The above disciplines are also applied for special projects and it is given in academic events like a short course. These activities have the objective to provide professional training through dynamic teaching techniques, interactive and focused on practice.
The extension projects have the objective to benefit society through the implementation and dissemination of the knowledge acquired by members of the PET Industrial Engineering at the university. These works are varied and involve many entities of society: academic comunity, businesses, charities, basic and middle education institutions, vocational and higher education, etc.
Currently, PET extension area has the following projects:
LEGO Lean Training
The LEGO Lean Training project is the application of Lego dynamics in companies, schools, Unifei and other education institutions. The purpose of the dynamic created by Alcoa group is to show concepts of Lean Manufacturing method (Production based on Toyota System) through simulation of a production line of a factory using the Interactive Assembly Line Blocks.
The development of the dynamic happens in four steps:
- The production system is pushed (push) and the plant has a clutter scenario.
- It is applied to 5S tool to the factory organization.
- It is applied the leveling Theory Workload (Kanban) and begins the pull system (pull) production.
- It is applied the automation of setup, the leveling of the production mix and the entire production line runs below the pulled production system.
The dynamic has the objective to spread Industrial Engineering knowledge – in schools and universities for students and companies (mainly industry). The content of the presentations covers several areas. As an example, in a management area employees training for a company.
In addition, LEGO Lean Training is traditionally applied to the Unifei freshman Industrial Engineering class to promote their first contact with some concepts and tools of the graduation.
The Oratory Workshop aims to help its participants to develop the art of oratory by presenting various concepts and techniques. The techniques used have the function of preparing them both for academic activities and extension projects, as well as for the various situations with which they may come across during their personal trajectories.
The Public Relations group aims to build relationships of mutual benefit between PET Industrial Engineering and its public through the management of internal and external communication, the dissemination of PET activities through the production of informative texts, graphic arts, records photographic and videos, as well as to carry out and promote academic events such as the Professional Qualification Week (SEQUALI), the Unifei Semester Project Workshop and the lectures of partner companies.
Unifei Project Semester
The Public Relations team is responsible for the entire process of promotion and registration of the Unifei Project Semester, whose objective is to enable university students to develop a professional project in a company and with that, they can have a closer contact with the professional environment, in addition to having opportunities to apply, in real situations, knowledge acquired during graduation.
The Public Relations team of PET Industrial Engineering produces the publication PET Informa. It presents a summary of the main activities of PET Production Engineering developed in the previous semester.
Members of PET Industrial Engineering idealize, plan and execute many social actions and participate of initiatives promoted by other organizations. These actions have the purpose to contribute to the community of Itajubá and region, so, the members develop their social conscience and at the same time help to promote a better life for people affected by the projects.
Quality Management System (SGQ)
The Quality Management System team aims to ensure a good progress of the activities developed by the group and promote interaction between all project areas.
The performance of the SGQ team is on the following fronts:
- Control and standardization of records and procedures to facilitate the issuance of official documents of PET;
- Quality tools application in the internal organization of the group, such as 5S, continuous improvement, 5W1H, Gantt charts and among others, based on the ISO 9001 standard;
- Application and control of the performance indicators, in order to verify the status of projects and the achievement of targets and contribute to the detection of the points to be improved by the group;
- Internal training to the staff, it is provided to spread the knowleadge, so, each member is able to understand and apply any necessary tool for the management of PET Industrial Engineering.
As a contribution to the training of the members, the SGQ team offers the opportunity to work with engineering tools widely used in enterprises, and allows great interaction with the other PET projects, promoting development characteristics as an organization and execution of tasks, leadership, negotiating skills and initiative.
All members of PET Industrial Engineering has a research under the guidance of teachers of the Federal University of Itajubá. These studies have the objective to contribute to the development of knowledge areas related to industrial engineering. So, the members cooperate with the enrichment of the curriculum of the Unifei Industrial Engineering, as they act among teachers that can disseminate the results of research to the academic community.
PET Industrial Engineering works as a partner or service provider with different types of organizations in Itajubá and other municipalities in the south of Minas Gerais, such as companies (mainly industries), charitable organizations, technological competition projects, junior companies, student representation organizations, high schools, technical and college education, etc.
In these partnerships PET members seek to apply their skills and disseminating the knowledge acquired at the university, so, those concepts and methods of Industrial engineering are put into practice to benefit society. New proposals of work and partnerships are always well received by the team. We believe that through mutual contribution, the interaction between projects enables immense development for all involved.
